Painter
1947-2022

Far from sketching from life, Georges Coulomb painted with 'the ink of his memory'. Through a vigorous use of masses and saturations, he structured a lyrical vision of the world.
A painting of dazzling beauty, without melancholy or darkness, which transforms the Provençal landscape into an architecture of light and exuberant colors.
GEORGES COULOMB: THE PROVENCAL ANCHOR
From matter to light
Born in Port-de-Bouc (1947-2022), Georges Coulomb was an artist of the land and sea. Initially drawn to art through sculpture, this radically self-taught artist made a decisive shift in 1970 by turning to painting. From his past as a sculptor, he retained a taste for relief and texture, forging a figurative expressionism where the brushstroke becomes architecture.
A dual inspiration
His work is the fruit of a fruitful tension between two Provences. The raw and industrial Provence of Port-de-Bouc, with its maritime horizons and the harshness of the port's trades. And the earthy and sun-drenched Provence of Varages, the land of his ancestors, its rhythm dictated by the harvests and the grape harvest.
A socially conscious artist
Far from being a solitary artist, Coulomb was a cultural driving force, co-founding the "Formes et couleurs" group and energizing the Mediterranean Salon of Visual Arts. A life dedicated to creation, now internationally recognized ( AKOUN rating) and represented in numerous private collections, from Europe to Japan.
